Hire · Candidate match score

A candidate match score you can explain

Every applicant gets a 0–100% match score for the job, built from seven clear factors and weighted for the type of role. Sort by best match, filter to strong fits, and see exactly why each candidate scored as they did.

Best fits first

Sort any job's applicants by match and start with the strongest.

Reasons, not a black box

Hover a score to see matched and missing skills, experience fit and more.

Weighted for the role

Sales roles weigh location; technical roles weigh skills. You can override.

Seven factors

Seven factors, one score

Every applicant score is computed across seven transparent factors: skills overlap, experience years, relevance to work history, location proximity, salary expectation vs budget, notice period, and screening question answers. No guessing, no opaque AI.

  • Detailed score popover shows matched & missing skills
  • Transparent factor weights adapted to each role profile
  • Candidates never see their internal score

Role weights

Weights that fit the job profile

Different roles prioritize different attributes. OneATS automatically applies tailored factor weights based on the role profile—Technical, Senior, Sales & field, Operations, Entry level, or General—or lets you choose your own.

  • Technical roles weigh skills (40%) and experience (25%)
  • Sales roles prioritize location and relevant background
  • Easily switch role profiles in job settings

Transparent logic

Honest about missing information

When an applicant has not provided salary or notice period details, OneATS skips that factor and proportionally re-weights known attributes rather than making assumptions. Profiles with too few attributes are marked as 'Not enough data'.

  • Proportional rescaling when attributes are omitted
  • Clear 'Not enough data' status for incomplete profiles
  • Prompts for missing data when reviewing candidates

Unified review

Everywhere you review candidates

Match scores appear wherever you work: the job's candidate list, the candidate profile, Kanban hiring board cards, review drawer, speed review, and when searching the talent pool.

  • Visible on hiring board cards and candidate lists
  • Instant ranking in Speed Review keyboard workflows
  • Match any talent pool candidate against open openings

Privacy

Recruiters see it; candidates don't

Match scores and breakdown popovers are strictly visible to admins, recruiters, and hiring team members. Scores never appear on public careers pages or candidate notifications.

  • Strict role-based visibility
  • Internal feedback stays private to the hiring panel
  • Auditable decision-making across stages

Frequently asked questions

Is the candidate match score AI-driven?

No. The match score is a transparent, explainable rule-based algorithm. It analyzes objective factors like skills overlap and experience without opaque machine-learning models or external third-party services.

Can a low match score reject a candidate automatically?

No. The match score is purely a prioritization and sorting tool. It never rejects candidates automatically; hiring teams remain in full control of all status decisions.

What if the job description doesn't list required skills?

OneATS extracts key technical and professional skills directly from your job description using an internal skills dictionary of over 190 common roles and competencies.

Can we adjust the scoring weights?

Yes. You can select between six predefined role profiles (Technical, Senior, Sales & field, Operations, Entry, General) to tailor how factors are weighted.

Does the match score work in the talent pool?

Yes. Use the 'Match against job' feature in the talent pool to instantly score and rank your existing candidate database against any active role.
